Introduction
Mr. Krishna:
Good evening, everyone.
Welcome to Manchester English Academy.
I am Mr. Krishna Kumar Sharma, your host for today’s discussion.
Today we are going to talk about a very interesting topic—Pet Animals. Many people love keeping pets because they provide companionship, emotional support, and happiness. However, owning a pet also comes with responsibilities.
To discuss this topic, I am delighted to welcome Engr. Muazzem Hossain.
Good evening, Mr. Muazzem. Welcome to our program.
Engr. Muazzem Hossain:
Good evening, Mr. Krishna.
Thank you very much for inviting me.
It is my pleasure to be here.
Do you have a pet?
Mr. Krishna:
Mr. Muazzem, let me begin with a very simple question.
Do you have any pets?
Engr. Muazzem Hossain:
Actually, I do not have any pets.
The main reason is that I have an extremely busy lifestyle.
Keeping a pet requires sufficient time, proper care, attention, and responsibility.
Unfortunately, I cannot provide those things consistently.
I believe that if someone cannot take proper care of a pet, it is better not to keep one at all.
Pets depend entirely on their owners.
If we fail to provide them with enough food, affection, exercise, and medical care, they may suffer both physically and emotionally.
Therefore, although I love animals, I have decided not to keep any pets at the moment.
Mr. Krishna:
I completely agree with you.
That is a very responsible attitude.
Many people buy pets simply because they look cute, but later they fail to take proper care of them.
In that case, both the owner and the animal suffer.
Which pet would you like to have?
Mr. Krishna:
If one day you had enough time, which pet would you choose?
Engr. Muazzem Hossain:
If I ever decide to keep a pet, I would definitely choose a cat.
Cats are gentle, calm, affectionate, and comparatively independent.
Unlike many other pets, they do not require constant attention.
They adapt easily to indoor environments and usually need less space than larger animals.
Moreover, I personally find cats very adorable and intelligent.
Mr. Krishna:
That’s wonderful.
Cats are certainly one of the most popular pets around the world.
Why are pets good for children?
Mr. Krishna:
Many parents believe that keeping pets is beneficial for children.
What do you think?
Engr. Muazzem Hossain:
I completely agree.
Pets can have a positive impact on children’s physical and emotional development.
Nowadays, many children spend excessive amounts of time using smartphones and other digital devices.
If they have a pet, they become more active and spend more time playing instead of staring at screens.
Pets also teach children responsibility, kindness, patience, empathy, and compassion.
Children learn how to care for another living creature.
These qualities help them become more responsible adults.
Mr. Krishna:
Excellent point.
Pets can truly become a child’s best friend.
Responsibilities of a pet owner
Mr. Krishna:
Suppose you owned a pet.
What responsibilities would you have?
Engr. Muazzem Hossain:
There are several important responsibilities.
First of all, I would provide a clean, safe, and comfortable place for my pet.
Secondly, I would ensure a healthy and balanced diet.
Regular veterinary check-ups and vaccinations would also be essential.
In addition, I would spend quality time with my pet because animals also need love and emotional attachment.
Finally, I would train my pet properly so that it could live peacefully with family members and visitors.
Mr. Krishna:
Absolutely.
A pet is not just an animal.
It becomes a member of the family.
Is keeping pets becoming a trend?
Mr. Krishna:
Nowadays, keeping pets has become very fashionable, especially in cities.
Do you think this is a positive trend?
Engr. Muazzem Hossain:
It depends on the owner’s lifestyle and commitment.
If someone has enough time, financial ability, and genuine affection for animals, then keeping a pet is a wonderful idea.
However, if people keep pets simply because it is fashionable, they may neglect them later.
That is unfair to the animals.
Owning a pet should be a long-term commitment rather than a temporary hobby.
Mr. Krishna:
Very well said.
A pet deserves lifelong care, not temporary attention.
Religion and Pets
Mr. Krishna:
Different cultures and religions have different perspectives on pets.
What is your opinion?
Engr. Muazzem Hossain:
As a Muslim, I personally prefer keeping cats.
Cats are considered clean animals in Islamic tradition.
Many Muslims keep cats as companions.
Some people also keep rabbits, birds, or fish.
Ultimately, it depends on personal preference, culture, and lifestyle.
The most important thing is to treat every animal with kindness and respect.
Mr. Krishna:
Absolutely.
Kindness towards animals is a universal value.
Describe your ideal cat
Mr. Krishna:
Can you describe your ideal pet cat?
Engr. Muazzem Hossain:
Certainly.
I would like to have a white, soft, and healthy cat.
It should be friendly, gentle, playful, and well-trained.
I would prefer a cat that is affectionate toward family members and especially kind to children.
A clean and disciplined pet always creates a pleasant home environment.
Mr. Krishna:
That sounds like the perfect companion.
Expensive foreign breeds
Mr. Krishna:
Nowadays, many people spend a huge amount of money on imported breeds.
What is your opinion about that?
Engr. Muazzem Hossain:
Personally, I don’t think expensive breeds are necessary.
Many local cats and stray animals also deserve love and care.
Instead of spending enormous amounts of money on exotic pets, we can adopt abandoned animals and give them a better life.
I believe compassion is much more valuable than luxury.
Mr. Krishna:
I completely agree.
Adopting an animal is truly a noble act.
Stray Animals
Mr. Krishna:
What do you think about stray cats and dogs?
Engr. Muazzem Hossain:
I feel sorry for them.
Many stray animals suffer from hunger, disease, and neglect.
If possible, we should provide them with food, clean water, and medical assistance.
Even small acts of kindness can make a significant difference in their lives.
Mr. Krishna:
That’s a wonderful message.
Compassion costs nothing but means everything.
Was it difficult to talk about this topic?
Mr. Krishna:
Finally, since you don’t own a pet, was it difficult to talk about this topic?
Engr. Muazzem Hossain:
Yes, honestly, it was a little challenging.
Since I don’t have firsthand experience, I had to rely on my general knowledge and observations.
However, I believe discussing unfamiliar topics is an excellent way to improve English speaking skills.
It forces us to organize our thoughts, learn new vocabulary, and express ideas confidently.
Mr. Krishna:
Exactly.
That is why we practice a wide variety of topics at Manchester English Academy.
Real-life communication requires us to discuss subjects we may not encounter every day.
The more topics we practice, the more fluent and confident we become.
Closing
Mr. Krishna:
Mr. Muazzem, thank you very much for sharing your valuable thoughts and opinions today.
It was truly a wonderful discussion.
Engr. Muazzem Hossain:
Thank you, Mr. Krishna.
It was my pleasure.
I really enjoyed our conversation.
Mr. Krishna:
Ladies and gentlemen,
Thank you for joining us today.
We hope you enjoyed this discussion on Pet Animals and learned some useful English vocabulary and expressions.
See you again with another interesting topic.
Until then, stay healthy, stay positive, and keep practicing English.
Thank you very much.
Paragraph: Pet Animals
A pet animal is a domestic animal that people keep for companionship, enjoyment, and emotional support. Although I do not have a pet, I am very fond of animals, especially cats. If I had enough free time, I would definitely keep a cat because it is gentle, affectionate, clean, and easy to take care of. Pets can make our lives happier by reducing stress and loneliness. They also teach children responsibility, kindness, and compassion because children learn how to care for another living creature. However, keeping a pet is a great responsibility. A pet owner must provide proper food, clean water, a safe shelter, regular medical treatment, and plenty of love and attention. Without proper care, pets may become sick or unhappy. Therefore, I believe that people should keep pets only if they have sufficient time, space, financial ability, and commitment. A pet should be treated as a family member rather than just an animal.
IELTS Speaking Cue Card
Describe a pet animal that you would like to have.
You should say:
- What kind of pet it is
- Why you like this pet
- How you would take care of it
- And explain why you would like to keep this pet.
Sample Answer (Band 8–9)
If I ever have the opportunity to keep a pet, I would definitely choose a cat. Although I do not own any pets at the moment because of my busy schedule, I have always admired cats for their gentle nature and independent personality.
The main reason I prefer cats is that they are affectionate, intelligent, and relatively easy to look after compared with many other pets. They do not require constant attention, and they can easily adapt to apartment living. Moreover, cats are very clean animals because they groom themselves regularly.
If I had a cat, I would make sure it had a comfortable place to sleep, nutritious food, fresh drinking water, and regular veterinary check-ups. I would also spend quality time playing with it every day because pets need love and emotional care just like human beings.
Another reason I would like to keep a cat is that pets help reduce stress and loneliness. After a long day at work, spending time with a lovely pet can be very relaxing. I also think pets teach us responsibility, patience, and compassion.
Overall, I believe cats are wonderful companions, and I hope I will be able to keep one when I have more free time and can take proper care of it.
Essay: Pet Animals
Pet Animals: Companions and Responsibilities
Pet animals have been an important part of human life for thousands of years. They provide companionship, emotional support, and happiness to millions of people around the world. Common pets include cats, dogs, birds, rabbits, and fish. Although keeping a pet can be a wonderful experience, it also comes with significant responsibilities.
One of the greatest benefits of having a pet is emotional well-being. Pets help reduce stress, anxiety, and loneliness. Many people feel happier and more relaxed when they spend time with their pets. For children, pets can become loyal friends and valuable companions. They also teach important life skills such as responsibility, kindness, patience, and empathy. Children learn to feed, clean, and care for another living creature, which helps develop their character.
However, owning a pet is not simply a hobby. It requires commitment, time, and financial resources. Pet owners must provide nutritious food, clean water, proper shelter, regular exercise, and veterinary care. They should also spend enough time with their pets because animals need affection and attention. Neglecting a pet can lead to health problems and emotional suffering.
Nowadays, keeping pets has become increasingly popular, especially in urban areas. Unfortunately, some people adopt pets simply because they are fashionable without considering the long-term responsibility. This often results in abandoned or neglected animals. Therefore, people should only keep pets if they are fully prepared to care for them throughout their lives.
Personally, I do not own a pet because my busy schedule does not allow me to give a pet the attention it deserves. Nevertheless, if I ever have sufficient time, I would like to keep a cat because it is gentle, intelligent, and relatively easy to care for.
In conclusion, pet animals bring joy, comfort, and companionship into our lives. However, they depend entirely on their owners for survival and happiness. Therefore, every pet owner should treat their pet with love, respect, and responsibility. A pet is not just an animal; it is a lifelong companion and a valued member of the family.
