Full IELTS Speaking Mock Test with sample band 9 answer IELTS Speaking Mock Test 17.08.2026
I’ll evaluate this as a real IELTS Speaking mock test, using the four official criteria:
- Fluency & Coherence (FC)
- Lexical Resource (LR)
- Grammatical Range & Accuracy (GRA)
- Pronunciation (P)
Because you provided a transcript rather than the actual audio, Pronunciation cannot be scored reliably. I’ll therefore give an estimated score based on the transcript, and I’ll point out what should be checked in the recording.
IELTS SPEAKING FULL MOCK TEST — DETAILED EVALUATION
Estimated Overall Band: 6.5
| Criterion | Estimated Band | Main Reason |
| Fluency & Coherence | 6.5 | Can develop answers, but repetition, hesitation and unclear linking occur |
| Lexical Resource | 6.5 | Good attempts at topic vocabulary, but several unnatural collocations |
| Grammatical Range & Accuracy | 6.0 | Frequent tense, article, preposition and sentence-structure errors |
| Pronunciation | 6.5* | Transcript cannot accurately assess pronunciation |
| Overall | 6.5 | Good communicative ability, but accuracy and naturalness need improvement |
PART 1
Question 1
Examiner:
Do you work or are you a student?
Candidate’s Answer
“Well, I am a full-time assistant professor at a public university. And I have joined there, about two years ago. And it was one of my job that I have cherished from my childhood. This is because I love to stay with students, and it feels me relax or relaxation moment.”
Evaluation
Fluency & Coherence: 6.5
The answer is reasonably developed and relevant. However, the repeated “And” makes the response sound somewhat mechanical.
Lexical Resource: 6.5
Good expressions:
- full-time assistant professor
- public university
- cherished
But:
❌ “it feels me relax”
❌ “relaxation moment”
Better:
✅ “It helps me unwind.”
✅ “It gives me a sense of fulfilment.”
Grammar: 6.0
❌ “I have joined there about two years ago.”
Because “two years ago” refers to a finished time, use the past simple:
✅ “I joined the university about two years ago.”
❌ “one of my job”
✅ “one of my dream jobs”
Pronunciation
Cannot be properly assessed from the transcript.
BAND 9 VERSION
“Well, I’m a full-time assistant professor at a public university. I joined the university about two years ago, and it’s actually a career I’ve dreamed of pursuing since childhood. What I particularly enjoy is being around students and helping them develop academically and personally. It gives me a real sense of fulfilment and keeps me motivated.”
🔥 Band 9 Techniques
1. Direct answer
“I’m a full-time assistant professor…”
2. Add background
“I joined the university about two years ago…”
3. Give a personal reason
“It’s actually a career I’ve dreamed of pursuing…”
4. Add emotional vocabulary
“It gives me a real sense of fulfilment.”
Useful expressions
- a career I’ve dreamed of pursuing
- a sense of fulfilment
- be around students
- help someone develop
- keep me motivated
Question 2
Examiner:
What do you enjoy most about your work?
Candidate’s Answer
“That’s a very interesting question. The thing that I like most about my work is the grooming that I can enable to do with my students. Because, as I have told before, I have the chance to meet my students every day. And this way, I can enable to refresh my battery and also can enable to teach something that will be benefited for their future goal as well as their future career.”
Evaluation
Fluency: 6.5
The candidate tries to explain the answer rather than giving a one-sentence response. Good.
However, there is too much repetition:
“I can enable…”
“can enable…”
“future goal…”
“future career…”
Lexical Resource: 6.0
❌ “the grooming that I can enable to do”
This is not a natural English collocation.
Better:
✅ “the opportunity to mentor my students”
❌ “refresh my battery”
This is understandable, but unnatural in this context.
Better:
✅ “It recharges me mentally.”
Grammar: 6.0
❌ “something that will be benefited for their future goal”
Better:
✅ “something that will benefit them in the future.”
BAND 9 VERSION
“What I enjoy most is the opportunity to mentor my students and watch them make progress. I meet them almost every day, so I get to build meaningful relationships with them and hopefully make a positive difference in their lives. Interestingly, teaching also recharges me mentally because I find it incredibly rewarding to share my knowledge and see students put it into practice.”
Excellent vocabulary
- mentor my students
- make meaningful progress
- build meaningful relationships
- make a positive difference
- recharge me mentally
- incredibly rewarding
- put something into practice
🎯 Trick
Instead of:
“I like teaching.”
Use:
“What I enjoy most is the opportunity to…”
This immediately allows you to develop your answer.
Question 3
Examiner:
Is there anything you don’t like about your work?
Candidate’s Answer
“Yes, there are lots of things I don’t like about my work, but one thing is very special. And it’s about the semester or session jam…”
Evaluation
Fluency: 6.0–6.5
The idea is understandable, but the answer contains some unnecessary repetition.
Lexical Resource: 6.0
The candidate means session backlog/session jam.
Better vocabulary:
- academic session backlog
- delays
- prolonged academic calendar
- disruption to students’ studies
Grammar: 6.0
“there are lots of things I don’t like…”
This is grammatically possible, but it sounds unnecessarily negative.
Better:
“There is one particular aspect that I find frustrating.”
BAND 9 VERSION
“Yes. Although I genuinely enjoy my profession, there is one particular aspect that I find frustrating: the academic session backlog. Because of administrative delays, semesters can sometimes run behind schedule, which means students have to wait longer to complete their degrees. As a teacher, I also find it frustrating because there isn’t much I can do to speed up the process.”
🔥 Natural Band 8–9 expression
“Although I genuinely enjoy my profession, there is one particular aspect that I find frustrating…”
This is much better than:
“There are lots of things I don’t like.”
Why?
Because it sounds balanced and mature.
Question 4
Examiner:
What do you usually do in your free time?
Candidate’s Answer
“Well, although I didn’t have much free time, but if I get an opportunity, then I would like to spend my free time with my family and friend as well…”
Evaluation
Fluency: 6.5
Good attempt to give multiple activities.
Lexical Resource: 6.5
Good:
- rat race of life
- spend time with family
- play cricket
- volleyball
- football
Grammar: 6.0
❌ “Although I didn’t have much free time, but…”
Never use although + but together.
✅ “Although I don’t have much free time…”
Also:
❌ “family and friend”
✅ “family and friends”
BAND 9 VERSION
“I don’t have a great deal of free time because of my workload, but whenever I get the chance, I like to spend quality time with my family and close friends. I also enjoy playing sports, particularly cricket and football, which I’ve been passionate about since childhood. I find that physical activity helps me switch off from work and recharge my batteries.”
⭐ Great expressions
- I don’t have a great deal of…
- whenever I get the chance
- spend quality time
- I’ve been passionate about…
- switch off from work
- recharge my batteries
Question 5
Examiner:
Do you prefer spending your free time alone or with other people?
Candidate’s Answer
“Well, it depends. Whenever, I think, grooming, I prefer myself stay alone from my surroundings…”
Evaluation
Fluency: 6.0
The candidate correctly begins with:
“It depends.”
That’s a strong strategy.
However, the explanation becomes difficult to follow.
Lexical Resource: 6.0
❌ “grooming” is not appropriate here.
The intended meaning seems to be reflecting / relaxing / focusing on personal development.
Grammar: 6.0
❌ “I prefer myself stay alone”
✅ “I prefer to spend some time alone.”
BAND 9 VERSION
“It really depends on my mood and what I need at the time. If I’ve had a particularly hectic day, I prefer to spend some time alone so that I can unwind, reflect on things and recharge. Having said that, I also enjoy spending time with friends and family because socialising gives me positive energy and helps me maintain a healthy balance.”
🔥 Band 9 structure
It depends → Situation 1 → Reason → Situation 2 → Reason
“It depends on…”
“If…”
“Having said that…”
This is excellent for Part 1.
PART 1 — GENERAL FEEDBACK
What the candidate does well
✅ Gives extended answers
✅ Uses personal examples
✅ Can explain reasons
✅ Uses some good vocabulary
✅ Generally understands the questions
✅ Doesn’t simply answer “yes/no”
Biggest problems
❌ Repetition of “And”
❌ “very” used too often
❌ unnatural collocations
❌ grammatical inaccuracies
❌ occasional unclear sentences
❌ overcomplicated structures
PART 2 — CUE CARD
Topic
Describe someone you know who has started a successful business.
You should say:
- who this person is
- what business they started
- why they decided to start it
- why you think the business has been successful
Candidate’s Answer
“Well, so today I am going to talk about a person who has started a successful business. And his name is Mr. Tamim…”
Evaluation
Fluency & Coherence: 6.5
The candidate can speak for an extended period and tells a story.
That’s a major strength.
However, there are several problems:
- unnecessary repetition
- some unclear sentences
- weak sequencing
- some ideas are introduced without being fully connected
Lexical Resource: 6.5
Good attempts:
- successful businessman
- cricket kit
- fascinated
- motivated
- lasting impact
But:
❌ “cricket-ing items”
❌ “business became boost up”
❌ “successful story”
Better:
✅ “cricket equipment”
✅ “the business began to flourish”
✅ “a remarkable success story”
Grammar: 6.0
Examples:
❌ “he started doing business of about ten years ago”
✅ “he started the business about ten years ago.”
❌ “he believed that business makes one person a successful man”
✅ “he believed that running a business could give him greater opportunities for success.”
❌ “his motivation have had”
✅ “his motivation has had”
BAND 9 CUE CARD ANSWER
“I’d like to talk about someone I’ve known since childhood, Mr. Tamim, who has built a remarkably successful business selling cricket equipment. He is a well-known figure in our local community, and I’ve always admired his determination and entrepreneurial spirit.
He started the business around ten years ago, when he opened a small shop next to his house. At the time, he mainly sold basic cricket equipment such as bats, balls, gloves and other accessories. He decided to do this because he noticed that cricket was becoming increasingly popular among young people in the area, so he saw a promising business opportunity.
Initially, the business struggled to attract customers, and he was understandably worried that it might fail. However, instead of giving up, he remained persistent and gradually expanded his range of products. As cricket became increasingly popular, demand for his products grew significantly. Eventually, his small shop evolved into a large sports store where customers could find almost everything related to cricket.
I believe his business became successful because he understood his target market, identified a genuine demand and, most importantly, remained committed even when things were difficult. What I admire most is that he never gave up. His journey has taught me that success rarely happens overnight; it usually comes from persistence, careful planning and the willingness to learn from setbacks. His story has definitely had a lasting impact on me and has inspired me to think more seriously about my own long-term goals.”
🎯 CUE CARD BAND 9 FORMULA
Use:
1. IDENTIFY
“I’d like to talk about…”
2. BACKGROUND
“I’ve known him since…”
3. WHAT
“He started…”
4. WHY
“He decided to do this because…”
5. PROBLEM
“Initially…”
6. DEVELOPMENT
“However…”
7. RESULT
“Eventually…”
8. PERSONAL FEELING
“What I admire most…”
9. LESSON
“His journey has taught me that…”
This gives your Part 2 answer a natural story arc rather than a list of disconnected sentences.
PART 3
Question 1
Examiner:
What kind of jobs do young people prefer in your country?
Candidate’s Answer
“Well, nowadays, as technology has changed, lots of our amenities. So, the youngsters prefer to do online job rather than doing actual or in-vitro job…”
Score: 6.0–6.5
Problems
❌ “technology has changed lots of our amenities”
Better:
“Technology has transformed the way people work.”
❌ “in-vitro job”
This is incorrect.
You probably mean:
“traditional office-based jobs”
Band 9 Answer
“Nowadays, I think many young people are increasingly attracted to technology-related and online jobs, particularly freelancing, remote work and digital marketing. One major reason is flexibility. They can often work from home, avoid long commutes and, in some cases, earn a competitive income. Having said that, traditional professions such as teaching, medicine and engineering are still highly respected, so I wouldn’t say young people are abandoning conventional careers altogether.”
🔥 Useful expressions
- increasingly attracted to
- technology-related jobs
- remote work
- flexible working arrangements
- avoid long commutes
- competitive income
- traditional professions
- highly respected
- I wouldn’t say… altogether
Question 2
Examiner:
Who is better at advising young people about choosing a career: parents or teachers?
Candidate’s Answer
“I think, both are better…”
Score: 6.5
The candidate gives a balanced answer, which is excellent.
However, the answer could have clearer comparison and examples.
Band 9 Answer
“I think both can play an important role, but if I had to choose one, I’d probably say teachers. Parents generally know their children better on a personal level, so they can understand their strengths, weaknesses and preferences. Teachers, on the other hand, usually have a better understanding of different academic and career pathways. For example, a teacher might know which subjects a student excels in and recommend a career that matches those abilities. Ideally, though, young people should consider advice from both sides before making such an important decision.”
🎯 Advanced structure
Opinion → Parent → Teacher → Example → Balanced conclusion
This is much stronger than:
“Both are better.”
Question 3
Examiner:
Is money always the most important factor when choosing a job?
Candidate’s Answer
“Well, it depends. It depends on person to person…”
Score: 6.5
Good idea.
The candidate understands that money matters but isn’t everything.
Problems
❌ repetitive
❌ “low economic country” is unnatural
❌ “you cannot be happy” is too absolute
Band 9 Answer
“Not necessarily. Although salary is undoubtedly an important consideration, I don’t think it should be the sole deciding factor. For many people, job satisfaction, career progression, job security and work-life balance can be equally important. For instance, someone might turn down a high-paying position if it involves excessive working hours and leaves them with virtually no time for their family. Personally, I think the ideal job is one that offers a reasonable income while also providing a sense of fulfilment and a healthy work-life balance.”
⭐ Powerful vocabulary
- an important consideration
- the sole deciding factor
- job satisfaction
- career progression
- job security
- work-life balance
- turn down a high-paying position
- excessive working hours
- a sense of fulfilment
Question 4
Examiner:
Do you think people nowadays are under pressure to work longer hours?
Candidate’s Answer
“Yes, obviously. Work in long hours have had a much impact on everyone’s life…”
Score: 6.0–6.5
The idea is relevant but grammar is weak.
Correct:
❌ “Work in long hours”
✅ “Working long hours”
❌ “have had a much impact”
✅ “has had a significant impact”
Band 9 Answer
“Yes, I definitely think so. In many industries, employees are under considerable pressure to work longer hours because of tight deadlines, heavy workloads and intense competition. This is particularly common in the private sector, where employees may feel that they have to work overtime to meet expectations or secure career advancement. In my view, employers should recognise that productivity doesn’t necessarily increase simply because people work longer hours.”
🔥 Strong expressions
- under considerable pressure
- tight deadlines
- heavy workloads
- intense competition
- work overtime
- meet expectations
- career advancement
- productivity doesn’t necessarily increase
Question 5
Examiner:
What problems can people experience if they have a poor work-life balance?
Candidate’s Answer
“Well, that’s a very interesting question. We have to manage both sides together. But it’s tough nowadays…”
Score: 6.5
This is one of the better answers conceptually.
The candidate identifies:
- excessive workload
- less family time
- family problems
- marital separation
- social consequences
That’s good development.
Band 9 Answer
“A poor work-life balance can have serious consequences for both individuals and their families. If people consistently work long hours, they may experience stress, exhaustion and eventually burnout. More importantly, they may have very little quality time to spend with their partners or children, which can gradually weaken family relationships. In the long run, this can affect not only people’s emotional well-being but also their overall quality of life. So, although hard work is important, it shouldn’t come at the expense of personal relationships and health.”
⭐ Excellent phrase
“It shouldn’t come at the expense of…”
Examples:
“Career success shouldn’t come at the expense of family life.”
“Economic development shouldn’t come at the expense of the environment.”
Question 6
Examiner:
What can employers do to help their employees maintain a good work-life balance?
Candidate’s Answer
“Well, employers have had a much impact on work life balance…”
Score: 6.0–6.5
The ideas are relevant, but the answer becomes vague.
Band 9 Answer
“Employers can take several practical measures. First of all, they can introduce flexible working arrangements, such as remote work or flexible hours, whenever the nature of the job allows it. They should also make sure employees have realistic workloads and sufficient annual leave. In addition, companies could organise team-building activities or provide recreational facilities so that employees can relax and socialise. Most importantly, managers should create a workplace culture in which employees feel comfortable taking breaks and using their holidays without feeling guilty.”
📊 FINAL DETAILED SCORE
| Criterion | Estimated Band | Feedback |
| Fluency & Coherence | 6.5 | Can speak at length, but repetition and some unclear development |
| Lexical Resource | 6.5 | Good range and some idiomatic language, but collocations are sometimes unnatural |
| Grammatical Range & Accuracy | 6.0 | Attempts complex structures, but frequent errors affect accuracy |
| Pronunciation | 6.5* | Cannot reliably assess without audio |
| OVERALL | 6.5 | Strong potential; grammar and natural collocations are the main barriers to Band 7+ |
If the actual pronunciation is strong:
6.5–7.0 is realistic.
To reach Band 7.5–8:
The candidate should focus especially on:
Grammar accuracy + natural collocations + controlled fluency.
🚀 THE BIGGEST BAND 9 CHANGES
1. Stop repeating “very”
Instead of:
very important
Use:
crucial / highly significant / essential
Instead of:
very successful
Use:
remarkably successful / highly successful / extremely accomplished
Instead of:
very difficult
Use:
challenging / demanding / extremely challenging
2. Replace basic vocabulary with natural collocations
| Basic | Better |
| get a job | secure a job |
| get money | earn an income |
| good job | rewarding career |
| lots of work | heavy workload |
| very tired | exhausted / drained |
| very busy | extremely hectic |
| help students | mentor students |
| learn things | acquire knowledge |
| improve | make significant progress |
| successful business | thriving business |
| business became big | business expanded rapidly |
| problems | challenges / obstacles |
| work a lot | work long hours |
| family time | quality time with family |
3. Use idioms — BUT naturally
Don’t force idioms into every answer.
Excellent IELTS-safe idioms
Recharge my batteries
“Playing football helps me recharge my batteries.”
A breath of fresh air
“Travelling is a breath of fresh air after a stressful week.”
In the rat race
“People are often caught up in the rat race.”
Once in a blue moon
“I only watch movies at the cinema once in a blue moon.”
A double-edged sword
“Technology is a double-edged sword.”
Go the extra mile
“Good teachers often go the extra mile for their students.”
Come at the expense of
“Career success shouldn’t come at the expense of family life.”
4. SHOW EMOTION + ENERGY
This is extremely important for Speaking.
Don’t speak like you are reading an essay.
Instead of:
“I like my job because I teach students.”
Say with enthusiasm:
“Oh, absolutely! What I love most about teaching is seeing students make progress. Honestly, there’s nothing more rewarding than watching someone struggle with a concept and then suddenly understand it.”
Useful emotional expressions
- Oh, absolutely!
- Definitely!
- To be honest…
- I genuinely enjoy…
- What I particularly love is…
- What I find fascinating is…
- I’m really passionate about…
- It gives me a real sense of fulfilment.
- I find it incredibly rewarding.
- That’s something I’m really enthusiastic about.
🎙️ INTONATION TRICK
Don’t keep the same pitch throughout the answer.
Example:
“I absolutely LOVE teaching. ↗️
The reason is that I get to work with young people every day.
And honestly, when I see a student finally understand something they struggled with, ↗️
I find that incredibly rewarding.” ↘️
Bangla explanation
ইংরেজি Speaking-এ শুধু grammar এবং vocabulary ভালো হলেই হবে না।
আপনার কণ্ঠে emotion, interest এবং confidence থাকতে হবে।
একই tone-এ:
“I like teaching. It is good. I teach students.”
বললে robotic শোনাবে।
কিন্তু:
“What I particularly love about teaching is…”
বললে আপনার আগ্রহ এবং personality ফুটে উঠবে।
🧠 THE BAND 9 PART 3 FORMULA
For almost every Part 3 question:
O → R → E → C
O = Opinion
R = Reason
E = Example
C = Consequence/Conclusion
Example
Question: Is money always important when choosing a job?
O
“Not necessarily.”
R
“Although salary is important, people also value job satisfaction and work-life balance.”
E
“For example, someone may reject a high-paying job if it requires excessive overtime.”
C
“So, I think people should look at the overall benefits rather than salary alone.”
This is much more powerful than giving a short answer.
🏆 FINAL ADVICE FOR THIS CANDIDATE
The candidate already has the ideas needed for Band 7+.
The biggest problem isn’t lack of ideas.
It is:
“I know what I want to say, but I don’t always have the grammatical control and natural English to express it.”
Therefore, don’t try to learn hundreds of complicated words.
Focus on these five areas:
1️⃣ Grammar accuracy
Especially:
- articles
- subject–verb agreement
- tense
- prepositions
- singular/plural
- conditionals
2️⃣ Natural collocations
Learn:
heavy workload
rather than
“lots of work”
3️⃣ Controlled fluency
Don’t rush.
Use natural fillers:
“Well, let me think…”
“That’s an interesting question.”
“I’d say…”
“It depends on…”
4️⃣ Develop every answer
Answer → Why → Example → Result
5️⃣ Sound interested
Use your voice:
energy + emotion + emphasis + pauses + natural intonation.
That’s what turns a technically correct answer into a convincing Band 8–9 performance.
IELTS Speaking Band 8–9 Model Answers
Full Mock Test — Step-by-Step with Tricks, Expressions & Lexical Resources
The key is not to memorize these answers word for word. Use the structures, expressions, collocations and ideas naturally.
⭐ The Band 8–9 Formula
For most questions, use:
Direct Answer → Reason → Example/Detail → Personal Comment
For Part 3, upgrade it to:
Opinion → Explanation → Example → Result/Contrast → Conclusion
PART 1 — INTRODUCTION & INTERVIEW
Question 1: Do you work or are you a student?
🎯 Trick
Don’t simply say:
“I am a student.”
Add what + where + what you enjoy.
⭐ Band 8/9 Answer
At the moment, I’m a full-time student. I’m studying engineering at university, and I’m currently in the final stage of my degree. What I particularly enjoy about my studies is that they allow me to combine theoretical knowledge with practical problem-solving. Although the workload can be demanding at times, I find it quite rewarding.
🔥 Useful expressions
| Expression | Bangla meaning |
| At the moment | বর্তমানে |
| full-time student | পূর্ণকালীন শিক্ষার্থী |
| final stage of my degree | ডিগ্রির শেষ পর্যায় |
| theoretical knowledge | তাত্ত্বিক জ্ঞান |
| practical problem-solving | বাস্তব সমস্যা সমাধান |
| demanding | কঠিন/চ্যালেঞ্জিং |
| quite rewarding | বেশ সন্তোষজনক |
💡 Tip
Use “At the moment” instead of repeatedly saying “now”.
Question 2: What do you enjoy most about your work or studies?
🎯 Trick
Use one specific aspect + explanation + example.
⭐ Band 8/9 Answer
What I enjoy most is the sense of progress I get from learning something new. Whenever I understand a complicated concept or successfully complete a challenging task, I feel a real sense of achievement. For example, recently I worked on a project that initially seemed quite difficult, but after putting in a considerable amount of effort, I managed to complete it successfully. That experience really boosted my confidence.
🔥 Band 8/9 vocabulary
- a sense of progress
- a sense of achievement
- complicated concept
- challenging task
- put in considerable effort
- boost my confidence
🇧🇩 বাংলা কৌশল
শুধু “I like it because it is interesting” বলবেন না।
বরং:
আমি কী পছন্দ করি → কেন → উদাহরণ → এর প্রভাব
Question 3: Is there anything you don’t like about it?
🎯 Trick
Don’t say:
“No, everything is good.”
A balanced answer sounds more natural.
⭐ Band 8/9 Answer
If I had to mention one drawback, it would probably be the workload. There are times when I have several assignments and deadlines at the same time, which can be quite stressful. Having said that, I understand that this is part and parcel of academic life, and I’ve gradually learned how to manage my time more effectively.
🔥 Excellent expressions
If I had to mention one drawback…
= যদি একটি অসুবিধার কথা বলতে হয়…
Having said that…
= তবে এ কথা বলার পর…
part and parcel of…
= কোনো কিছুর অবিচ্ছেদ্য অংশ
manage my time effectively
= কার্যকরভাবে সময় পরিচালনা করা
⭐ Why this sounds Band 8/9
It demonstrates:
- natural linking
- complex grammar
- idiomatic language
- balanced opinion
Question 4: What do you usually do in your free time?
🎯 Trick
Use:
Usually → activity → reason → feeling
⭐ Band 8/9 Answer
When I have some downtime, I usually try to do something relaxing. I often watch films, listen to music or meet up with a few close friends. However, if I’ve had a particularly hectic week, I prefer staying at home and simply unwinding. I find that these activities help me recharge my batteries and return to my studies with a fresh mind.
🔥 Lexical resources
| Expression | Meaning |
| downtime | অবসর সময় |
| hectic week | ব্যস্ত সপ্তাহ |
| unwind | মানসিক চাপ কমানো |
| recharge my batteries | নতুন শক্তি ফিরে পাওয়া |
| meet up with friends | বন্ধুদের সঙ্গে দেখা করা |
| fresh mind | সতেজ মন |
⭐ Idiom
recharge my batteries
Natural idiom = খুব ভালো।
But don’t use 5 idioms in one answer. One natural idiom is enough.
Question 5: Do you prefer spending your free time alone or with other people?
🎯 Trick
Give a conditional answer.
⭐ Band 8/9 Answer
It really depends on my mood and how busy I’ve been. If I’ve had a stressful week, I’d rather spend some quiet time by myself because it gives me an opportunity to unwind and clear my head. On the other hand, if I’m feeling energetic and sociable, I enjoy hanging out with my friends. So, I’d say I prefer a healthy balance between the two.
🔥 Excellent expressions
- It really depends on…
- I’d rather…
- clear my head
- on the other hand
- feeling sociable
- hang out with friends
- a healthy balance
🇧🇩 Tip
“It depends” দিয়ে শুরু করলে answer শেষ করবেন না।
❌ It depends.
✅ It depends on my mood and how busy I’ve been.
Question 6: Where is your hometown?
🎯 Trick
Don’t give only the location.
⭐ Band 8/9 Answer
I come from Sylhet, which is in the northeastern part of Bangladesh. It’s particularly well known for its lush green landscapes, tea gardens and scenic natural attractions. It’s a relatively peaceful city, and one thing I really appreciate about it is the slower pace of life compared with larger cities like Dhaka.
🔥 Lexical resources
- northeastern part
- lush green landscapes
- scenic attractions
- relatively peaceful
- slower pace of life
- compared with
🎯 Grammar trick
Use a relative clause:
Sylhet, which is located in northeastern Bangladesh, is famous for its natural beauty.
This demonstrates grammatical range.
Question 7: What do you like most about your hometown?
⭐ Band 8/9 Answer
Without a doubt, the natural beauty is what I like most about my hometown. There are plenty of picturesque places where people can escape the hustle and bustle of city life. I also love the fact that people tend to be warm and welcoming, so visitors usually feel at home quite quickly. For me, it’s the combination of nature and the friendly atmosphere that makes Sylhet special.
🔥 Band 9 vocabulary
| Expression | Meaning |
| Without a doubt | নিঃসন্দেহে |
| picturesque | ছবির মতো সুন্দর |
| escape the hustle and bustle | ব্যস্ততা থেকে মুক্ত হওয়া |
| warm and welcoming | আন্তরিক ও অতিথিপরায়ণ |
| friendly atmosphere | বন্ধুত্বপূর্ণ পরিবেশ |
| makes it special | এটিকে বিশেষ করে তোলে |
Question 8: Has your hometown changed much in recent years?
🎯 Trick
Use Past → Present → Example → Opinion.
⭐ Band 8/9 Answer
Yes, quite significantly, actually. Over the past decade, my hometown has experienced considerable development. There are better roads, more restaurants and cafés, and improved facilities for tourists. At the same time, rapid development has brought some problems, particularly traffic congestion and environmental pressure. So, although I’m pleased with the progress, I think the authorities need to make sure that development remains sustainable.
🔥 Excellent vocabulary

- considerable development
- improved facilities

⭐ Golden Cue Card Structure
Opening → Background → Main event → Details → Reasons → Result → Feelings → Conclusion
🎤 BAND 9 SAMPLE ANSWER
I’d like to talk about a person called Shahid, who is the younger brother of one of my close friends. I’ve known about him for several years, and what makes his story particularly interesting is that he gave up the conventional career path and decided to build a business of his own.
A few years ago, he launched a bakery and confectionery business, initially starting with a relatively small shop. He sells a range of products, including fresh bread, biscuits, cakes and other snacks. What is particularly impressive is that the business has gradually developed into a small chain and has become quite popular in the local area.
As far as I know, Shahid decided to start the business because he wanted greater independence and didn’t want to rely entirely on a salaried job. Although he was actually trained as an engineer, he spent a considerable amount of time researching the local market before investing his money. He looked at customer preferences, competitors, pricing and even the most suitable locations for his shops.
I think the main reason behind his success is that he didn’t simply jump into the business without a plan. He identified a genuine demand in the market and then focused heavily on product quality, customer service and branding. What’s more, he was willing to take calculated risks and learn from his mistakes rather than giving up when things didn’t go according to plan.
Personally, I find his journey quite inspiring. It shows that academic qualifications don’t necessarily determine someone’s ultimate career path. If a person has a clear vision, is willing to work hard and understands the market, they can potentially turn a modest idea into a thriving business.
So, although I don’t personally plan to leave my current career and become an entrepreneur, Shahid’s story has definitely taught me the importance of initiative, perseverance and careful planning.

PART 3 — DISCUSSION
Question 1: What kinds of jobs do young people prefer in your country?
🎯 Trick
Use:
General trend → Reason → Example → Result
⭐ Band 9 Answer
Generally speaking, young people in my country tend to prefer jobs that offer financial security, career progression and social status. Government positions are particularly attractive because they are often associated with job security, while corporate jobs appeal to young people who are ambitious and looking for faster career growth. For example, many graduates actively prepare for government examinations, whereas others try to join multinational companies because of the competitive salaries and professional development opportunities. So, I think young people’s choices are largely shaped by a combination of financial and long-term career considerations.
🔥 Lexical resources
- generally speaking
- financial security
- career progression
- social status
- job security
- career growth
- professional development
- long-term considerations
Question 2: Who is better at advising young people about choosing a career: parents or teachers?
🎯 Trick
Don’t choose one blindly.
Use:
It depends → Parents → Teachers → Final opinion
⭐ Band 9 Answer
I’d say it depends largely on the individual situation. Parents generally understand their children’s personality, strengths and weaknesses, so they can offer valuable personal advice. Teachers, on the other hand, tend to have a better understanding of academic subjects and different career pathways. For instance, a teacher may know which qualifications are required for a particular profession, whereas parents may have a better idea of what kind of working environment would suit their child. Ideally, therefore, young people should listen to both and then make an informed decision for themselves.
🔥 High-level expressions
on the other hand
career pathways
working environment
make an informed decision
Question 3: Is money always the most important thing when choosing a job?
🎯 Trick
Start with a clear opinion.
Then concede the opposite side.
⭐ Band 9 Answer
No, I wouldn’t say that money is always the most important factor. Obviously, a decent salary is essential because people need financial stability to support themselves and their families. However, factors such as job satisfaction, work-life balance, career progression and a positive working environment can be equally important in the long run. For example, someone might earn an exceptionally high salary but work twelve hours a day and have virtually no time for their family. In that situation, the financial benefits may not compensate for the stress and lack of personal time.
🔥 Excellent collocations
- financial stability
- job satisfaction
- work-life balance
- positive working environment
- exceptionally high salary
- virtually no time
- compensate for
- personal time
Question 4: Do you think people nowadays are under pressure to work longer hours?
⭐ Band 9 Answer
Yes, to a considerable extent. In many industries, employees are expected to meet tight deadlines, respond to messages outside working hours and remain available even when they are technically off duty. This pressure is particularly noticeable in highly competitive corporate environments, where employees may feel that working longer hours demonstrates commitment. The problem is that if this becomes the norm, people can eventually suffer from burnout and their productivity may actually decline. So, I think employers need to focus on results rather than simply measuring how many hours someone spends at work.
🔥 Powerful vocabulary
- to a considerable extent
- tight deadlines
- outside working hours
- off duty
- highly competitive
- demonstrate commitment
- become the norm
- suffer from burnout
- productivity may decline
Question 5: What problems can people experience if they have a poor work-life balance?
🎯 Trick
Give 2–3 consequences, not a long list.
⭐ Band 9 Answer
A poor work-life balance can have serious consequences for both individuals and their families. At an individual level, excessive working hours can lead to stress, exhaustion and eventually burnout. People may also have less time to exercise, socialise or simply relax. At a family level, constantly being busy can weaken relationships because people don’t have enough quality time together. In the long run, therefore, an unhealthy work-life balance can negatively affect both physical and emotional well-being.
🔥 Lexical resources
- serious consequences
- excessive working hours
- exhaustion
- burnout
- quality time
- weaken relationships
- in the long run
- emotional well-being
Question 6: What can employers do to help their employees maintain a good work-life balance?
🎯 Trick
Use Solution 1 → Solution 2 → Example → Result.
⭐ Band 9 Answer
There are several practical measures employers could take. First and foremost, they could introduce flexible working arrangements, such as remote working or flexible hours, whenever the nature of the job allows it. They could also discourage employees from responding to work-related messages outside office hours. For example, a company could introduce a policy that employees are not expected to answer emails after 7 p.m. In addition, employers could provide adequate annual leave and encourage staff to actually use it. These measures would help employees recharge and, ironically, could make them more productive at work.

⭐ THE GOLDEN BAND 9 SPEAKING FORMULA

ANSWER → WHY → EXAMPLE → RESULT → PERSONAL COMMENT
For example:
Question: Is money important when choosing a job?
Yes, I think money is important, but it shouldn’t be the only consideration.
The main reason is that people need financial stability to support themselves.
For example, a well-paid job can help someone afford better housing and education.
However, if the job is extremely stressful, the person may eventually suffer from burnout.
So, personally, I believe people should look for a balance between financial security and job satisfaction.
That’s the kind of developed, natural and flexible answer that can support a Band 8–9 performance.
💐 Thanks, and Good Luck! 🤞
