Introduction
Mr. Krishna: Good evening, Mr. Yasir Arafat. Welcome to the session.
Mr. Yasir Arafat: Good evening, Mr. Krishna. Thank you very much for inviting me.
Mr. Krishna: You are most welcome. First of all, Eid Mubarak in advance. I hope you are doing great.
Mr. Yasir Arafat: Thank you so much, Mr. Krishna. Eid Mubarak to you too. Yes, I am doing very well.
Mr. Krishna: Wonderful. Today, we are going to talk about The Crow and the Pitcher, one of the most famous Aesopâs Fables. It is truly a classic story and one of the favorites for people of all ages. So, could you please tell us about the story briefly?
The Crow and the Pitcher
Mr. Yasir Arafat: Yes, certainly. Let me tell you the story briefly.
The story is about a crow and a pitcher. On a hot summer day, a thirsty crow was flying across several villages in search of water. It was extremely thirsty and desperately wanted something to drink.
At one point, while flying over a village, the crow spotted a pitcher. Immediately, it flew down near the pitcher and tried to find water inside it. When the crow looked inside, it discovered that there was only a little water at the bottom of the pitcher.
The crow became disappointed at first, but it did not lose hope. Instead of giving up, it started thinking creatively. After observing the surroundings carefully, the crow noticed some pebbles and small stones scattered nearby.
Then, the crow began picking up the pebbles one by one and dropping them into the pitcher. Gradually, the water level started to rise. After some time, the water reached close enough to the top, and finally, the crow was able to drink the water and quench its thirst.
After satisfying its thirst, the crow happily flew away.
After reading this story, I realized that small efforts can solve big problems if we use creativity, patience, perseverance, and determination.
Mr. Krishna: Excellent explanation, Mr. Yasir. You narrated the story beautifully. I really liked the way you highlighted creativity and perseverance.
Personal Experience Related to the Story
Mr. Krishna: Have you ever faced a similar situation in your own life where you had to solve a problem creatively?
Mr. Yasir Arafat: Yes, absolutely. As far as I can remember, I faced a similar situation a couple of years ago when I visited Jaflong, one of the most beautiful tourist destinations in Bangladesh.
After walking for a long time, I became extremely thirsty. Unfortunately, I was in a remote area and did not carry any bottle of water with me.
I searched for water for quite a while. Eventually, I found a container, but it was empty. After searching further, I noticed some water at the bottom of a hill. However, the water looked dirty and unsafe to drink.
Instead of giving up, I tried to come up with another plan. I collected the water in a pot and decided to purify it by boiling it over a fire. I managed to create a fire using stones and dry materials around me.
After boiling the water properly, I was finally able to drink it and satisfy my thirst. In that situation, I solved the problem using intelligence, patience, and creativity.
Mr. Krishna: That is a wonderful real-life example. It clearly shows how important problem-solving skills and presence of mind are in difficult situations.
Moral Lessons from Aesopâs Fables
Mr. Krishna: In our lives, many people give up too early instead of trying until the very end. Do you think we should become more persistent like the crow in the story?
Mr. Yasir Arafat: Absolutely. I strongly believe that we should continue trying until we have no other option left. Persistence is one of the most important qualities in life.
Mr. Krishna: Exactly. Persistence and patience are truly essential for success.
So, overall, what lessons do you think people can learn from Aesopâs Fables?
Mr. Yasir Arafat: I think Aesopâs Fables are extremely important because they teach valuable moral lessons.
Human beings face many different challenges in life. Sometimes people become frustrated, disappointed, and lose hope very easily. However, Aesopâs Fables teach us wisdom, patience, creativity, honesty, and determination.
These stories inspire people to think positively and solve problems intelligently. I believe they contribute greatly to our personal development and happiness.
Mr. Krishna: Brilliant answer. I completely agree with you. These stories are simple, but their lessons are very deep and practical.
Vocabulary Learned from the Story
Mr. Krishna: What kind of vocabulary have you learned from this story?
Mr. Yasir Arafat: I learned several new words from this story, such as pitcher, pebbles, and most importantly quench.
Previously, I was not familiar with the word quench. Now I understand that it means to satisfy thirst.
Mr. Krishna: Excellent. Story-based learning is actually one of the best ways to improve vocabulary naturally.
Words like quench, discover, grip, perseverance, and determination are extremely useful in spoken and written English.
Moral of the Story
Mr. Krishna: The moral of the story is often described as âNecessity is the mother of invention.â What do you think about this moral?
Mr. Yasir Arafat: I think this moral is highly relevant in our lives.
Sometimes people give up too quickly instead of trying different solutions. This story teaches us that difficult situations can encourage us to become more creative and innovative.
When people face necessity, they are often forced to think differently and discover new methods to solve problems. Therefore, I believe the moral of the story is extremely practical and inspiring.
Mr. Krishna: Very well explained. I really appreciate your interpretation.
Why Couldnât the Crow Drink Water Initially?
Mr. Krishna: Why couldnât the crow drink the water at first?
Mr. Yasir Arafat: The crow could not drink the water initially because the water level inside the pitcher was too low.
Although the crow tried several times using its beak, it could not reach the water at the bottom of the pitcher.
Mr. Krishna: Exactly. That obstacle forced the crow to think creatively.
How Did the Crow Solve the Problem?
Mr. Krishna: So, how did the crow finally solve the problem?
Mr. Yasir Arafat: Instead of losing hope, the crow carefully observed its surroundings and came up with an innovative idea.
It started picking up pebbles one by one and dropping them into the pitcher. As more pebbles were added, the water level gradually rose. Eventually, the crow was able to drink the water successfully.
Mr. Krishna: Wonderful explanation. That clearly shows the importance of intelligence and perseverance.
Discussion About Eid Preparations
Mr. Krishna: Now let us talk about Eid. What preparations have you made for Eid this year?
Mr. Yasir Arafat: I have bought a cow and a goat for sacrifice on Eid-ul-Adha. Besides that, I have also purchased new clothes for Eid.
I am planning to visit my relatives after Eid, and I also intend to travel to my hometown to meet my maternal uncle.
Mr. Krishna: That sounds wonderful. So, you have quite a few exciting plans this year.
Mr. Yasir Arafat: Yes, absolutely.
Excitement About Eid
Mr. Krishna: Do you feel more excited about Eid this year compared to previous years?
Mr. Yasir Arafat: Yes, definitely. Eid always gives me an opportunity to reunite with relatives, friends, and loved ones.
Moreover, Eid allows me to travel outside Dhaka, which is difficult during my busy working schedule.
Mr. Krishna: Very true. Eid is truly a beautiful occasion for family bonding and social connection.
Difference Between Childhood Eid and Present Eid
Mr. Krishna: What differences do you notice between Eid during your childhood and Eid nowadays?
Mr. Yasir Arafat: There are significant differences.
During my childhood, I had very few responsibilities. I spent most of my Eid holidays watching television, visiting relatives, and roaming around with friends.
However, nowadays Eid comes with many responsibilities. I have to manage household chores, family activities, and social obligations, especially during Eid-ul-Adha.
Even though adult life is more demanding, Eid still remains enjoyable and meaningful for me.
Mr. Krishna: Excellent comparison. That is very relatable for many people.
Technology and Social Changes During Eid
Mr. Krishna: In the past, people used to visit each other physically during Eid. Nowadays, social media has changed many things. What do you think about this transformation?
Mr. Yasir Arafat: Yes, there has been a major transformation due to technology.
In my childhood, there was very limited social media. People spent more time visiting relatives and friends in person.
Nowadays, people often communicate through Facebook, WhatsApp, Messenger, and other digital platforms instead of meeting physically.
Technology has made communication easier, but at the same time, it has reduced face-to-face interaction to some extent.
Mr. Krishna: Exactly. Technology has brought convenience, but sometimes it also reduces emotional connection among people.
Plans with Friends
Mr. Krishna: What are your plans with your friends during Eid?
Mr. Yasir Arafat: I am planning to spend time with some of my close university friends after Eid.
We are also planning to travel to Coxâs Bazar together. After returning from the trip, I intend to visit my maternal uncle and other relatives.
Mr. Krishna: That sounds like an excellent plan. I hope you enjoy your holidays.
Sacrifice and Humanity
Mr. Krishna: Eid-ul-Adha teaches us about sacrifice. Do you think people should sacrifice more for humanity and society?
Mr. Yasir Arafat: Yes, absolutely.
I believe people should spend more quality time with family members, friends, and loved ones instead of becoming overly attached to technology.
Nowadays many people are becoming emotionally distant because they spend too much time on social media and electronic devices.
We should sacrifice some of our time and comfort to strengthen our relationships and help people in need.
Mr. Krishna: Beautifully said. Human connection and compassion are extremely important.
Difference Between Ramadan and Eid-ul-Adha
Mr. Krishna: What differences do you notice between Ramadan and Eid-ul-Adha?
Mr. Yasir Arafat: Ramadan is mainly about self-control, spirituality, patience, and devotion to Allah. During Ramadan, Muslims fast for thirty days and try to avoid bad deeds.
On the other hand, Eid-ul-Adha focuses more on sacrifice, generosity, and sharing happiness with others.
During Eid-ul-Adha, Muslims sacrifice animals and distribute meat among relatives, neighbors, and poor people. It is both a religious and social celebration.
Mr. Krishna: Excellent explanation. You explained both occasions very clearly.
Helping Poor People in the Future
Mr. Krishna: If you become wealthy and financially successful in the future, would you like to help poor people?
Mr. Yasir Arafat: Yes, definitely.
Whenever I travel around Dhaka city and rural areas of Bangladesh, I see many poor and homeless people. Their condition makes me feel very sad.
If I become financially capable in the future, I would like to donate a significant portion of my money to help underprivileged people.
I dream of contributing to a society where poverty is greatly reduced and people can live with dignity.
Mr. Krishna: That is truly a noble mindset. Wanting to make the world a better place is a wonderful goal.
Conclusion
Mr. Krishna: Thank you very much, Mr. Yasir Arafat, for sharing your wonderful thoughts and experiences with us today. It was truly a pleasure talking to you.
Mr. Yasir Arafat: Thank you very much, Mr. Krishna. I really enjoyed the session.
Mr. Krishna: You are most welcome. Eid Mubarak once again, and I wish you all the best for your future.
Mr. Yasir Arafat: Eid Mubarak to you too. Thank you very much.
