Introduction
Mr. Krishna:
Hello, good evening. Welcome to the session, Doctor. How are you today?
Dr. AK Monir:
Good evening, Sir. I am fine, thank you. How about you?
Mr. Krishna:
I am doing very well. Thank you very much for joining today’s session.
Dr. AK Monir:
Thank you, Sir.
Mr. Krishna:
Today, I have planned to ask you several questions so that you can practice speaking English fluently and confidently. While answering, try to use linking words, fillers, coherence, and proper sentence structures. Please answer naturally and within the correct tense range. Is that okay?
Dr. AK Monir:
Yes, Sir. Okay.
Learning English
Mr. Krishna:
My first question is: Do you like learning English?
Dr. AK Monir:
Actually, yes, I really like learning English because English is an international language. Not only is it an international language, but it is also the official language for academics, communication, research, and international travel.
Whenever I travel abroad, English becomes extremely important. For example, when I buy something, order food, book air tickets, or communicate with people from different countries, I need English. That is why I enjoy learning English and want to improve my fluency every day.
Mr. Krishna:
Excellent answer, Doctor. Yes, English is extremely important nowadays, especially for professionals like doctors and researchers.
Favorite Food
Mr. Krishna:
Now I would like to ask you: What type of food do you usually eat? What is your favorite food?
Dr. AK Monir:
Actually, I was born in Bangladesh, so I naturally prefer Bangladeshi food. I really enjoy rice, fish, chicken, mutton, and traditional Bangladeshi dishes.
However, sometimes I also enjoy Chinese food and other foreign cuisines. Whenever I visit Cox’s Bazar or Saint Martin’s Island, I like eating seafood and ocean fish. Overall, Bangladeshi food is very special and enjoyable in my life.
Mr. Krishna:
Wonderful. Bangladeshi cuisine is truly rich and delicious.
Health and Lifestyle
Mr. Krishna:
As a doctor, how do you take care of your health?
Dr. AK Monir:
Basically, I try to maintain a healthy lifestyle. I wake up early in the morning and follow a proper routine for breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinner.
In addition, I go for regular health checkups every year. I brush my teeth twice a day and try to maintain proper oral hygiene. I also eat a balanced diet with nutritious food and drink three to four liters of water every day.
Moreover, I try to follow an organized and healthy lifestyle as much as possible.
Mr. Krishna:
That is excellent. Maintaining discipline is extremely important for a healthy life.
Technology and Smartphones
Mr. Krishna:
Do you like technology?
Dr. AK Monir:
Of course, Sir. I like technology very much. As a dentist, I need to use different types of modern technologies for patient treatment. Besides that, I am also a researcher, so technology plays a very important role in my academic life.
For example, I use laptops, smartphones, research software, digital tools, and medical equipment regularly.
Mr. Krishna:
Very nice. Do you use smartphones frequently?
Dr. AK Monir:
Yes, definitely. Smartphones are very important nowadays. Whenever I go outside, I use my phone for taking photos, checking emails, using WhatsApp, Messenger, Google, and many other applications.
Mobile phones help us communicate easily and stay connected with the world.
Mr. Krishna:
Absolutely correct.
Advantages and Disadvantages of Mobile Phones
Mr. Krishna:
Do you think mobile phones are essential in your profession?
Dr. AK Monir:
Yes, I think mobile phones have both advantages and disadvantages. It completely depends on how people use them.
Personally, I use my phone for good purposes such as research, academic learning, Google Scholar, ChatGPT, Google Gemini, reading articles, and communication.
However, some people misuse smartphones, especially children and elderly people who spend excessive time on unnecessary activities.
Mr. Krishna:
Excellent point. Technology should always be used wisely.
PhD Journey
Mr. Krishna:
Now I would like to know about your PhD journey. Why did you decide to pursue a PhD in India?
Dr. AK Monir:
Actually, I came to India for higher studies and research purposes. I got admitted to a PhD program at an Indian university.
As a result, I frequently travel between Bangladesh and India. Honestly speaking, the journey is not very easy because traveling regularly can be physically exhausting.
Most of the time, I travel by air or train. Although the journey is difficult, I believe that higher education and research are very important for my future career.
Mr. Krishna:
That is inspiring. Pursuing higher studies requires sacrifice, dedication, and patience.
Shopping and Entertainment
Mr. Krishna:
Do you like shopping?
Dr. AK Monir:
Yes, of course. Whenever I get free time, especially during weekends, I like visiting shopping malls.
Usually, I buy technological accessories such as chargers, laptop covers, mobile covers, and screen protectors. Sometimes I also buy clothes, cosmetics, and other personal items.
Moreover, when I go out with my friends, we often visit shopping malls together and explore different gadgets and technologies.
Mr. Krishna:
That sounds enjoyable. Do you watch movies as well?
Dr. AK Monir:
Yes, definitely. Whenever I get enough free time, I enjoy watching movies with my Indian and Bangladeshi friends.
Usually, we watch one or two movies every week. Watching movies helps me relax and refresh my mind.
Mr. Krishna:
Wonderful.
Friends and Family
Mr. Krishna:
Please tell me about your friends and family.
Dr. AK Monir:
Family and friends are both very important in my life. Whenever I spend time with my family members, such as my wife, child, mother, and brothers, I feel emotionally happy and peaceful.
On the other hand, spending time with friends is different. With friends, we laugh, sing, travel, gossip, and discuss many topics such as politics, business, professional life, relationships, and social issues.
However, conversations with family are usually more personal and emotionally connected.
Mr. Krishna:
Excellent explanation. Both family and friends play different but valuable roles in our lives.
Bangladesh vs India Environment
Mr. Krishna:
You have experience living in both Bangladesh and India. What environmental differences have you noticed?
Dr. AK Monir:
Actually, there are many differences. One week ago, I was in Bangladesh, and I really enjoyed the environment there. Bangladesh has both rainy and hot weather, but overall I feel more comfortable in Bangladesh.
On the other hand, India is a very large country with different climates in different states. Currently, I am staying in Bhubaneswar, where the temperature is extremely high, often around 38 to 40 degrees Celsius.
Whenever I go outside during daytime, I feel very uncomfortable because of the excessive heat. That is why I usually go outside either in the morning or evening.
Most of the time, I stay in my hostel, library, or university campus. Whenever I travel outside, I prefer AC buses or cars due to the hot weather.
Overall, I personally prefer the Bangladeshi environment because it feels more comfortable to me.
Mr. Krishna:
That makes perfect sense. Climate can significantly affect daily life and comfort.
Future Goals
Mr. Krishna:
Finally, I would like to know about your future goals.
Dr. AK Monir:
Well, my professional background is in dentistry, but currently I am more interested in research and academic development.
Clinical practice and research are completely different fields. Clinical work involves treating patients directly, whereas research focuses more on innovation, academic contribution, and scientific discovery.
While working in Bangladesh, I noticed many patient-related challenges, overcrowded hospitals, and stressful clinical environments. That experience gradually increased my interest in research-based work.
After completing my PhD, I would like to pursue further opportunities in developed countries. If I get a good opportunity, I would like to settle in a first-world country and continue contributing to international research and academics.
That is my future dream and long-term goal.
Mr. Krishna:
That is truly inspiring, Doctor. I hope you achieve all your goals and continue making meaningful contributions to research and healthcare.
Thank you very much for joining today’s session.
Dr. AK Monir:
Thank you very much, Sir.
