Paragraph essay and cue card on my Garden
Paragraph: My Garden
Gardening is one of my favorite hobbies because it keeps me close to nature and gives me peace of mind. During my childhood, I had a small garden beside my reading room where I planted various flowering plants and ornamental trees. My friends often visited my house to admire the beauty of my garden. As I became busier with my studies and professional life, I could no longer maintain it regularly. At present, I live in a rented apartment where there is not enough space or sunlight for gardening. However, I have a strong desire to create a beautiful garden in my own house in the future. I plan to grow decorative plants, flowering vines such as Madhabilata, fruit trees, and a few medicinal herbs. I believe gardening not only beautifies our surroundings but also provides fresh oxygen, reduces stress, and creates a healthy environment. It also teaches children responsibility, patience, and love for nature. Therefore, I consider gardening one of the most rewarding and meaningful hobbies in life.
Essay: My Garden
My Garden
Gardening is one of the most enjoyable and beneficial hobbies that anyone can develop. It connects us with nature, refreshes our minds, and creates a peaceful environment around our homes. Although modern life keeps many people busy, the importance of gardening has never decreased.
During my childhood, I had a small but beautiful garden beside my reading room. I planted different kinds of flowering plants and ornamental trees. Every morning and evening, I watered the plants and removed the weeds. My friends often came to my house to admire the colorful flowers and the pleasant atmosphere. Those memories are still very precious to me.
As I grew older and became engaged in my professional career as an engineer, I found it difficult to spend enough time maintaining my garden. At present, I live in a rented apartment where there is very little space for gardening. My balcony does not receive sufficient sunlight or fresh air, making it unsuitable for growing healthy plants. Nevertheless, I have never lost my passion for gardening.
In the near future, I plan to move to a new house where I can establish my dream garden. I have already selected several decorative plants, flowering vines such as Madhabilata, ornamental shrubs, and a few fruit trees. I want to create a peaceful environment where my family can relax and enjoy nature. I also hope my children will learn how to care for plants and become more responsible individuals.
Gardening offers numerous benefits. It improves the beauty of our surroundings, purifies the air by producing oxygen, reduces pollution, and provides fresh fruits, vegetables, and medicinal herbs. Furthermore, gardening is an excellent form of exercise and helps reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. Spending time among green plants gives people mental peace and emotional satisfaction.
In conclusion, gardening is much more than a hobby. It is a way of living in harmony with nature. Even though I am currently unable to maintain a garden because of my busy schedule and limited space, I strongly believe that I will build a beautiful garden in my own house in the future. It will not only beautify my home but also provide a healthy and peaceful environment for my family.

During my childhood, I had a small garden beside my reading room. I planted different types of flowering plants, ornamental trees, and seasonal flowers. My friends often visited my house because they enjoyed the beautiful environment and colorful flowers.
In the future, I plan to create a much larger and more attractive garden. I want to grow flowering vines such as Madhabilata, decorative foliage plants, fruit trees like mango and guava, and a few medicinal herbs. I also want to keep several potted plants on the balcony and rooftop.
To maintain the garden properly, I will water the plants regularly, apply organic fertilizer, remove weeds, trim the branches, and protect the plants from insects and diseases. I would also encourage my children to help me with gardening so that they can learn responsibility and develop a love for nature.
Gardening is very important to me because it gives me mental peace, reduces stress, and creates a healthy environment. Plants produce fresh oxygen, improve air quality, and make our surroundings more beautiful. I believe gardening is not only a hobby but also a wonderful way to stay connected with nature and live a healthier life. If I get the opportunity, I will definitely create my dream garden and spend my leisure time taking care of it.
Host: Mr. Krishna, Guide, English Teacher, Founder and Mentor, Manchester English Academy
Guest: Engr. Muazzem Hossain
Formal Dialogue: My Garden
Mr. Krishna: Good evening, Engr. Muazzem Hossain. How are you doing today?
Engr. Muazzem Hossain: Good evening, Mr. Krishna. I am doing great, thank you. How are you?
Mr. Krishna: I am doing very well. Thank you for asking. Today, I would like to discuss a very interesting topic—gardening. It is one of the most enjoyable and relaxing hobbies. Almost every Bengali family has some connection with gardening because we often grow flowers, fruits, or vegetables at home. Could you please share your childhood experience of gardening?
Engr. Muazzem Hossain: Certainly. It is a wonderful topic. When I was a student in Class Seven or Eight, I had a small garden beside my reading room. I planted different kinds of flowering plants and ornamental trees. Many of my friends used to visit my house to see my beautiful garden. It was one of my favorite hobbies during my childhood.
Mr. Krishna: That sounds wonderful. It seems you were very passionate about gardening.
Engr. Muazzem Hossain: Yes, I was. However, as time passed, I became very busy with my studies and later with my professional career. Gradually, I could not give enough time to take care of the garden. As a result, I no longer have that garden.
Mr. Krishna: I completely understand. Gardening requires regular care and attention. Without sufficient time, it becomes difficult to maintain.
Engr. Muazzem Hossain: Exactly. Even now, I have a strong desire to build a beautiful garden. However, I believe that before starting one, I must ensure that I can devote enough time to maintaining it. Otherwise, the plants will not receive proper care.
Mr. Krishna: That is a very practical approach. Where are you living now?
Engr. Muazzem Hossain: At present, I live in a rented apartment in the town. Unfortunately, there is very little space for gardening. I have a small balcony, but it does not receive enough sunlight or fresh air, so it is not suitable for growing healthy plants.
Mr. Krishna: That must be a little disappointing for someone who loves gardening.
Engr. Muazzem Hossain: Yes, it is. I really miss having a garden.
Mr. Krishna: Do you have any future plans regarding gardening?
Engr. Muazzem Hossain: Yes. Within the next six or seven months, I plan to move to another house. While choosing my new residence, I will definitely look for a place with enough space for gardening. I have already selected several decorative plants that I would like to grow. Some of them do not even produce flowers, but their colorful leaves make them very attractive.
Mr. Krishna: That sounds exciting. Decorative plants can make any home look elegant and refreshing.
Engr. Muazzem Hossain: Absolutely.
Mr. Krishna: What inspired you to become interested in gardening again?
Engr. Muazzem Hossain: In my previous workplace in Kishoreganj, one of my senior colleagues was extremely passionate about gardening. He decorated the entire office campus with beautiful flowers, ornamental plants, and trees. Many visitors came to our office just to admire the beautiful surroundings and take photographs. Seeing his dedication inspired me greatly. I hope to create a similar environment around my own house someday.
Mr. Krishna: That is really inspiring. Once you begin gardening, you will probably keep collecting more plants. Eventually, your home may look like a small botanical garden!
Engr. Muazzem Hossain: (Laughs.) I hope so.
Mr. Krishna: In my opinion, plants are among the most trustworthy companions. They never disappoint us. If we take care of them today, they reward us with flowers, fruits, shade, beauty, and fresh oxygen for many years.
Engr. Muazzem Hossain: I completely agree. Besides their beauty, plants provide us with fresh air and oxygen, which are essential for our health.
Mr. Krishna: Exactly. From a religious perspective, do you think planting trees is encouraged?
Engr. Muazzem Hossain: Yes. Although there may not be specific instructions about gardening itself, Islam always encourages people to perform beneficial deeds. Planting trees benefits both humans and the environment. Therefore, I believe it is a noble activity.
Mr. Krishna: I completely agree. Caring for nature is indeed a good deed.
Mr. Krishna: What about your children? Are they interested in gardening?
Engr. Muazzem Hossain: Yes, they are. In our previous rented house, I bought a few flowering plants. My children enjoyed watering them every day. My younger son was very enthusiastic, although he often picked all the flowers because he did not understand how to care for the plants properly. On the other hand, my elder son was more careful and learned how to water and protect the plants.
Mr. Krishna: That is wonderful. Gardening teaches children responsibility, patience, and love for nature.
Engr. Muazzem Hossain: Exactly.
Mr. Krishna: Did you buy any new plants recently?
Engr. Muazzem Hossain: Yes. A couple of days ago, I bought a beautiful Madhabilata plant for my house.
Mr. Krishna: Really? Madhabilata is one of my favorite flowering vines. Its fragrance is absolutely mesmerizing.
Engr. Muazzem Hossain: Yes, it already has many flowers. It is not a bonsai plant. It will grow larger and eventually spread over the veranda with proper support.
Mr. Krishna: That will certainly make your home look beautiful.
Engr. Muazzem Hossain: I hope so.
Mr. Krishna: You mentioned that you plan to move to another house. Why is that?
Engr. Muazzem Hossain: The current apartment is too congested. There are buildings all around us, and there is no open space where my children can run and play. I want to move to a place with a rooftop or an open yard so that both my children and my future garden can have enough space.
Mr. Krishna: That is a very sensible decision. A rooftop garden would be an excellent choice. Your children could learn how to care for plants while enjoying nature.
Engr. Muazzem Hossain: Exactly. That is one of my dreams.
Mr. Krishna: In your opinion, what are the major benefits of gardening?
Engr. Muazzem Hossain: Gardening has numerous benefits. We can grow flowers, fruits, vegetables, herbs, and medicinal plants. It provides us with fresh food and fresh oxygen. Gardening also improves the beauty of our surroundings, reduces stress, and brings mental peace. Children who participate in gardening spend less time using mobile phones and learn responsibility by taking care of plants.
Mr. Krishna: Those are excellent points. Gardening certainly benefits both physical and mental health.
Engr. Muazzem Hossain: Yes, I strongly believe so.
Mr. Krishna: Did your grandparents teach you gardening?
Engr. Muazzem Hossain: Unfortunately, I never had that opportunity because my grandparents passed away before I was born. However, my father is a farmer. I often accompanied him to the fields, where I learned how to plant crops and harvest them. Although farming and gardening are different, those experiences helped me develop an interest in plants.
Mr. Krishna: That is still valuable practical experience.
Engr. Muazzem Hossain: Absolutely.
Mr. Krishna: Do you plan to turn gardening into a business in the future?
Engr. Muazzem Hossain: No. My goal is not commercial farming. I simply want to create a peaceful, beautiful, and healthy environment for my family. I would like to grow ornamental plants, flowering trees, and a few fruit trees mainly for personal enjoyment.
Mr. Krishna: So, your main objective is to beautify your home and help your children stay close to nature.
Engr. Muazzem Hossain: Exactly.
Mr. Krishna: Would you prefer growing flowers or vegetables?
Engr. Muazzem Hossain: I would mainly focus on flowers and ornamental plants because they require less daily maintenance than vegetables. Vegetable gardening demands regular care, watering, and monitoring, which may be difficult for me due to my busy schedule.
Mr. Krishna: That makes perfect sense. It is always better to choose something that matches your lifestyle.
Engr. Muazzem Hossain: Yes, I agree.
Mr. Krishna: Thank you very much, Engr. Muazzem Hossain. It was truly a pleasure discussing gardening with you today.
Engr. Muazzem Hossain: Thank you very much, Mr. Krishna. I really enjoyed our conversation.
